The Frail

When Kevin & Daniel met on Craigslist searching for like minded musicians they never expected a simple call for collaborations would evolve into debut EP from a stage-shattering, boundary-pushing electro pop act worthy of international acclaim. And all this happened over email exchange, before the band had even met one on one.

Bleeding with synth-pop melodies and vocals that would make Michael Jackson envious, San Francisco-based group, The Frail return only to further blur the line between traditional pop and soulful rnb, creating a genre that idles comfortably between Capital Cities and The Weeknd, a sound that is all their own. The group are gearing up to release their forthcoming album,  LoveDeathLegend this coming August 26, 2014.

Comprised of Daniel Lannon (vox, synths), Israel Chavarin (bass), Kevin Durr (synths) and Chris Chan (drums), The Frail released their first EP, Count On This, in 2007, followed by Lasers Over Lovers in 2011, garnering attention Fuse, MTV Buzzworthy, Diffuser, The San Francisco Chronicle, Performer Magazine, and ArtistDirect.  The band have become well known for their vivacious live shows, opening for acts like Goldfrapp, The Teenagers, Hot Chip, and Neon Trees.

The band’s forthcoming LP, LoveDeathLegend gives the middle finger to conventional pop, with soaring melodies and infectious synths bursting with attitude. Recorded at San Francisco’s Different Fur Studios with producer Patrick Brown (Morning Benders, So Many Wizards, Michael Franti) the result is an eclectic collection of tracks, showcasing the thoughtful songwriting and musicianship of the band.

From the first moments on album opener,  “Back To Me”, a striking duet with Kylee Swenson of Loquat, The Frail invite us into a party that we never want to leave. Journeying from upbeat dance tracks like, “Automatic,” to the bass heavy, “I Never Knew You,” things eventually take a slower turn on tracks like, “Run Life”, which was written after the loss of some of Lannon’s close friends. “It’s about not knowing the true thoughts someone had before passing, and making a story about those people realizing and “waking up” once they realized that life isn’t that bad.”, says Lannon.

The album concludes on a high note, with uptempo anthems like “This Is Who We Are”, and finally the contemplative “Live Is Done” featuring rapper A-1. LoveDeathLegend is fun, dance-worthy electro pop at its finest.

LoveDeathLegend is due for release later this year, alongside a deluxe version of the record that features remixes by Worthy and Spekrfreks.
