Smith & Thell
Maria Jane Smith and Victor Thell, collectively known as Smith & Thell, met one another as young teenagers at a local music event in their hometown of Helsingborg in Southern Sweden. After deciding to launch their own artist project, Smith & Thell, they submitted their song, “Statue” to be considered for Sweden’s prestigious Denniz Pop Awards. With a panel led by multi-platinum producer Max Martin, the jury selected Smith & Thell as the “New Artist of The Year”.
Their debut full length album “Soulprints” was released in April 2017 and, to date, has already combined for more than 35 million streams, radio support throughout Europe, and two gold records (“Statue” and “Toast”). In November 2018, Smith & Thell released their breakthrough hit single, “Forgive Me Friend”, which has since been streamed over 70 million times and earned Platinum (3x) status in Sweden and Gold status in Norway. The hit reached #1 at pop radio in Sweden and Poland, top 25 on U.S. Alternative Radio, and Top 10 on U.S. Triple A Radio.
Smith & Thell’s follow up 2019 single, “Hotel Walls”, quickly became a hit in its own right. The song shot to #1 on Swedish pop radio, and has, to date, been streamed over 25 million times. It is certified Platinum in Sweden and Gold in Norway. The duo went on to perform on stages across the world with other artists, including The Head and The Heart, Young the Giant, and Fitz and the Tantrums.
In addition to their work as Smith & Thell, Victor and Maria have established themselves as one of Sweden’s most sought after songwriter and producer duos. Their writing credits for major label artists, including Ava Max (“So Am I”), Alan Walker (“Ignite”), NOTD (“I Miss Myself”), and R3hab (“Lullaby”), account for over 2 Billion global streams.
February 2020 saw Smith & Thell win the Swedish Grammi award for Composer of the Year, and release their single, “Goliath”. The rest of the year will bring a new EP from the band, which also plans to hit the road for a world tour including major U.S. festivals.
